Aussie firms await path forward on AUKUS Pillar II


More direction is needed from Defence departments on the way forward with the advanced technologies component of AUKUS, according to a handful of Australian and American firms working in some of the all-important Pillar II capability areas.

That was the prevailing view from a session during the Indo Pacific International Maritime Exposition in Sydney last week, with panel and audience members expressing frustration at information flow and the speed of progress.

Of the three AUKUS members, only representatives from the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence received any praise from the audience for its “very productive” briefings on the subject to date.
