All govts to adopt digital licence standards

State and territory governments have agreed to adopt international security standards for digital driver’s licences, in a move that promises to reduce the prospect of fraud and identity theft.

Data and digital ministers from across Australia took the decision that also paves the way for the nationwide acceptance of digital licences as part of a new verifiable credential strategy on Friday.

The move comes just months after experts renewed calls for governments to bake in ISO-18013, the digital identity-specific standard that lays out security and privacy requirements, including for the storage of data and private keys.
