‘A vacant paddock’: Sydney Science Park’s lost decade


“Little more than a water recycling facility that has no present utility and will go into non-operational maintenance mode for the foreseeable future.”

That how an NSW parliamentary committee has described a long-running project to build a $5 billion science and innovation hub on the outskirts of Sydney, almost 15 years after it was first promised.

Today, Sydney Science Park, as it was dubbed by developer Celestino remains a “vacant paddock” in Luddenham with only basic infrastructure, despite receiving planning approval almost a decade ago.
