Australian government officials were banned from using Kaspersky after at least one agency was found to be using the antivirus software seven years after an informal ban came into effect.
A “potential procurement” of the software was also uncovered during a routine sweep of third-party vendors last year, officials from the Department of Home Affairs revealed on Thursday.
“We … saw that particular vendor being used in, I think, one of the supply chains of a department,” Home Affairs’ group deputy secretary of cyber and infrastructure Hamish Hansford said.
