‘Time to act’: $14b Future Made tax incentives hit Parliament

Treasurer Jim Chalmers on Monday introduced legislation to allow the government to pour almost $14 billion into Australia’s fledgling green hydrogen and critical minerals processing industries, marking a new era of industry intervention.

But Dr Chalmers faces an uphill battle in Parliament ahead of next year’s election without Coalition support, and doubts about the emerging markets after some companies abandoned or scaled back target projects.

The landmark bill to set up the incentives is central to the Future Made in Australia agenda and was circulated with industry last month.
