The first recipients of the Albanese government’s quantum challenge program have been unveiled, with 14 consortia sharing in $5.2 million to explore the technology’s potential for sectors like energy, health and communication, amid a surge in government spending on quantum.
Universities, the CSIRO and private quantum firms will team up to run feasibility studies with individual grants of up to $500,000.
Announced on Wednesday, the latest funding arrives amid fresh doubts about the future of the government’s flagship quantum investment, and confirmation taxpayers continue to do the heavy lifting on the mostly pre-commercial technologies.
