Local quantum leaders push for govt ‘test-bed’ support

The federal government is assessing an unsolicited proposal from a group of Australian quantum companies seeking substantial funding to build ‘test-bed’ infrastructure that could be used by the local industry to test and refine valuable quantum products.

The group is a loose consortium of venture-backed Australian companies and at least one public research institution and is understood to have sought $350 million over five to seven years, with the ambition for funding to be considered as part of 2025-26 budget.

The Department of Industry, Science and Resources was handed the proposal three months ago, with its Quantum division now in the process of consulting with stakeholders, beginning with a series of invitation-only roundtables.
