The Albanese government will seek to pass legislation by the end of the year to force companies to disclose ransomware payments after ramping up its own efforts to go after foreign cyber criminals.
The legislation, which is yet to be publicly circulated but could arrive as early as next week, aims to uncover the scale of the ransomware challenge, and the financial model that underpins it.
It also sets new standards for internet connected devices, and mandatory post-incident disclosures and reviews.
