Australia is poised for a manufacturing renaissance, with the federal government’s Future Made in Australia agenda moving the country closer to the interventionalist policies of other developed nations.
And with manufacturing already an important source of innovation to the economy and responsible for higher-than-average productivity growth during a productivity slowdown, that can only be a good thing.
In fact, manufacturing was the “most innovation-intensive sector in the whole economy” in 2020 and contributes disproportionately to exports, according to a report from think tank the Australia Institute.
But faced with growing competition in other developed countries, devising innovative ways to keep manufacturing at the mainstay of a high-wage Australian economy is the immediate challenge of the sector.
This year’s finalists in the Manufacturing Innovation category embody the innovation occurring across the manufacturing process, including R&D, production, supply chain, sales and end-of-life management.
The finalists in this category are:
- Verbotics Weld
- SciDev
- Provectus Algae
- BlockTexx
The InnovationAus Awards for Excellence 2024 winners and finalists will be celebrated at a black-tie gala dinner at The Venue Alexandria in Sydney on Wednesday October 30. You can book your tickets here.
Behind the finalists:
Verbotics Weld was founded in 2017 to revolutionise the way robots are programmed. Removing the skill barrier, time and effort involved, the technology makes robotic automation accessible for low-volume production.
SciDev is a leader in environmental solutions focused on water-intensive industries, allowing clients to reuse water, improve operational efficiencies and minimise their environmental footprints.
Provectus Algae strives to improve the world’s environmental impact, leveraging proprietary technologies and advanced photobioreactors to develop natural solutions that greatly reduce methane emissions from cattle.
BlockTexx is a leading global movement towards a circular economy for its customers and production partners by developing planet-focused solutions that divert textile waste from landfill into sustainable products.
Since their inception in 2021, the InnovationAus Awards for Excellence continue to spotlight pioneering companies that are driving innovation within this all-important category.
The judging criteria centres on five focus areas that are vital to success: commercial success; translation of intellectual property; the company’s impact on its sector; non-R&D innovations; and applied technologies.
Now in its fourth year, the 2024 awards are supported by the Australian Computer Society, Investment NSW, Department of Industry, Science and Resources, Technology Council of Australia, TechnologyOne, National Artificial Intelligence Centre, CSIRO’s ON Innovation Program, Reason Group, Q-CTRL, University of New South Wales, and IP Australia.
If you are looking for brand exposure in front Australia’s tech ecosystem, purchase a table of 10 for the InnovationAus 2024 Awards for Excellence and have your logo displayed on screens across the venue and in the event program as a table sponsor.
