The Food and AgriTech sector is a huge contributor to the Australian economy, already generating $20 billion in annual economic benefit – a figure that will only grow in the years ahead.
And with the National Farmers’ Federation setting an ambitious target for a $100 billion in farm output by 2030, a greater reliance on automated systems and predictive technologies is all but certain.
Some of the world-class innovations that will play an ever-growing role in the future sector were on show in this year’s Food & AgriTech category, with entries spanning high-tech sensors to farm-based robotics and plant-based meat and other protein products at scale.

Refilled’s smart drinks dispenser aims to eliminate 100-million single-use plastic bottles by 2030 by empowering organisations and consumers to take climate action into their own hands.
Southern Ocean Subsea (SoSub) pioneers innovative solutions with the subsea industry, specifically the world’s first remotely operated vehicle Net Repair System — for the efficiency and sustainability of aquaculture operations.
Since their inception in 2021, InnovationAus Awards for Excellence continue to spotlight pioneering companies that are driving innovation within this all-important category.
The judging criteria centres on five focus areas that are vital to success: commercial success; translation of intellectual property; the company’s impact on its sector; non-R&D innovations; and applied technologies.
Now in its fourth year, the 2024 awards are supported by the Australian Computer Society, Investment NSW, Department of Industry, Science and Resources, Technology Council of Australia, TechnologyOne, National Artificial Intelligence Centre, CSIRO’s ON Innovation Program, Reason Group, Q-CTRL, University of New South Wales, and IP Australia.
