Drone traffic will be monitored through a long-awaited flight management system from end of next year, as Airservices Australia gets to work rolling out the new capability.
The federal government’s Aviation White Paper, released on Monday, confirms the new Flight Information Management System (FIMS) will go live in late 2025, enabling existing air traffic control systems to exchange data with drone operators.
From mid-2024, Airservices Australia will start deploying FIMS’ automated flight authorisation capability to non-military aerodromes.
