The federal government will next year trial a digital identity exchange scheme that it says offers European-level data control, reducing the honeypot of personal information held by businesses and boosting productivity.
Government Services minister Bill Shorten will on Tuesday unveil a Trust Exchange, or TEx, that has reached a proof-of-concept stage through an $11.4 million investment led by Services Australia.
Part of the Digital ID project but not a distinct form of identification, TEx allows users to verify their identity and credentials based on government-held information via a digital wallet, including the myGov wallet.
