Govt readies for full launch of Economic Accelerator

The federal government intends to fully launch Australia’s Economic Accelerator in the coming months after kicking off its recruitment of program managers more than two years after the commercialisation initiative was first unveiled.

The $1.6 billion Australia’s Economic Accelerator (AEA) was announced in early 2022 by the former Coalition government as the flagship initiative in response to a review of Australia’s research commercialisation system.

It will offer staged grant funding for university research programs with high commercialisation potential, and was baked into legislation by the Albanese government with bipartisan support in March last year.
