After completing a nationwide briefing tour and developing its initial signals to industry, the head of Defence’s new $3.4 billion accelerator is ready to get to work with local companies on a bold new approach to capability acquisition.

The Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator (ASCA) is expected to approach the market for the first time on Thursday for its core ‘Missions’ program designed to acquire cutting edge capabilities co-designed with industry under the lead of a non-defence expert.

The outside leadership for Missions, relatively rapid acquisition and new premium on collaboration and procurement are hallmarks of the new approach, billed as the biggest shakeup of Defence innovation in a decade.
