NSW AI framework could serve as model for govt

A framework developed by the New South Wales government to guide the use of artificial intelligence by public servants could serve as the basis for a national framework now under development.

Commonwealth, state and territory ministers responsible for data and digital have begun talks to create a national AI assurance framework based on NSW’s existing framework for use by all Australian governments.

The ongoing discussions are revealed by South Australia’s Office for Data Analytics in a submission to the state’s parliamentary inquiry into AI – one of three inquiries underway across the country in response to the rise of generative AI tools like ChatGPT.
