Global consulting giants McKinsey and Boston Consulting Group will be paid $3.4 million for seven weeks work to support the independent review of the troubled modernising business registers program.

McKinsey will be paid just over $2.4 million across two contracts to examine the financial aspects of the program, which is expected to cost $1 billion more than first thought, and assess data management processes.

BCG will be paid just under $1 million for an assessment of the program management and operating model used for the overhaul to date.
