AUKUS closes gap on China’s critical tech lead


AUKUS puts the collective research might of the three allies ahead of China in critical technologies like robotics and quantum sensing, and closes the gap in others, new research reveals.

But China is still regarded as the leading research nation for all but four of the technologies considered integral to the security pact, with its “commanding lead” in several areas creating high risk of a monopoly.

As efforts to remove barriers to sharing defence technologies between AUKUS partners continue, the Australian Strategic Policy Institute will on Tuesday release new data showcasing the dominance of countries in advanced capability areas under AUKUS Pillar II.
