Defence takes PwC’s word on $233 million in contracts

The Department of Defence is yet to undertake any independent assurance checks of its more than $233 million worth of active PwC contracts in the wake of the tax leaks scandal, despite being the consultancy’s biggest Commonwealth client.

Defence associate secretary Matt Yannopoulos told Senate Estimates on Tuesday that there have been no additional independent assurance checks by the Department since it was revealed the company breached confidentiality agreements to profit off multinational tax changes.

But he said the department had received assurances from PwC Australia acting chief executive Kristen Stubbins and the lead Defence partner that none of the 50-plus individuals associated with the scandal have ever worked on Defence projects.
