The federal government will begin using artificial intelligence-infused software to scour the public internet and dark web as part of security clearance checks after signing an almost $10 million deal with Australian startup Fivecast.
The software is being introduced to modernise the digital footprint checks conducted by the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) on behalf of more than 800 federal and state government entities.
A digital footprint, otherwise known as a digital shadow, is the trail of publicly-accessible information a person leaves when they use the internet. It can include social media posts, websites visited, and other information submitted online.
