Policy wonks and the Budget Insider

InnovationAus.com is super excited to announce the return of Budget Insider, the supercool policy soiree where serious discussions about the future of our sector takes place over cocktails and canapes as Scott Morrison hands down his third federal budget.

With our event partner Wrays – one of the largest independent IP specialist firms in Australia – we have put together an exciting program for tech industry leaders and die-hard policy wonks for Budget night May 8.

Listening in: Here’s to you Mr Morrison, a sector turns its lonely eyes to you … oo, oo, oo

This is a chance to hear – with wine in hand – what will almost certainly be the Treasurer’s last Budget address of the current Parliament, and to delve into the entrails of his speech in search of meaning in the hours that follow.

The Budget Insider features two great panels; one before the speech making fearless predictions, and one straight afterwards, either basking in a glow of Treasurer-love, or as a disappointed industry wallflower.

“In 2018 it looks like we’ll have a lot to talk about as discussions on innovation policy are making a comeback,” said InnovationAus.com publisher Corrie McLeod.

“Just as we thought the federal government had gone completely silent on new initiatives, Bill Ferris’ Innovation and Science Australia has put forward 30 recommendations in its 2030 Strategy that shows there is life in the innovation policy after all.

“Many of the 2030 strategy recommendations will have implications for this Budget – certainly in relation to the R&D tax incentive scheme, education and training, or in the reinvestment in science infrastructure. So, we are hoping to see a swag of initiatives will land in the Treasurer’s speech,” Ms McLeod said.

Budget Insider’s distinguished panel of speakers include:

  • Amanda Rose, Managing Partner, Western Sydney Advisory
  • Danny Gilligan, Co-founder and Managing Director, Reinventure Group
  • Fleur Brown, Chief Executive Officer, Launch Group
  • Jason Yat-Sen Li, Chairman, Vantage Asia Holdings
  • Matt Barrie, Chief Executive, Freelancer.com
  • Samantha Clarke, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, Advice RegTech
