Cybersecurity has been thrust into the spotlight in Australia in recent months. The Optus and Medibank hacks among others have demonstrated the devastating impact a data breach can have.
These high-profile breaches also underline the importance for all organisations in ensuring they have best-practice cybersecurity protections in place.
It is fortunate that Australia has a wealth of world-class cybersecurity companies ready to help. The sector has been growing rapidly in recent years and is only set to continue.
This has been signaled at the federal level too, with the new Labor government quickly reinstating the position of Minister for Cybersecurity, with Clare O’Neil stepping into the role.
The government has also pledged to scrap the former Coalition government’s $1.7 billion cybersecurity strategy and to implement its own.
Cybersecurity has never been more important, and the finalists in this category of the 2022 InnovationAus Awards for Excellence demonstrate just how good Australia is at it. The winners and finalists will be celebrated at a black-tie gala on Thursday November 17 at The Cutaway venue at Barangaroo in Sydney. You can book tickets here.

Behind the finalists:
DTEX product starts from a recognition that the vast majority of cyber breaches originate from human error, and quite often a very simple and avoidable one.
DTEX offers security and management software with a focus on this human side of the cybersecurity equation, with its workforce cyber intelligence and security software based on learning from employee behaviour, with an emphasis on privacy.
Sapien Cyber aims to provide full visibility of a critical infrastructure company’s cyber-risk exposure, attack surface and any potentially suspicious activity within its operation technology networks.
This can then help them to prepare and defend this crucial infrastructure against malicious cyber intrusions and mitigate the impact on business continuity, reputation and financial loss. The multi-purpose threat management system provides automated detection of security threats and vulnerabilities.
SecureStack is based in Melbourne with a mission of sniffing out any problems in the software development lifecycle, covering credentials, vulnerable software libraries and cloud misconfigurations. This helps its clients to quantify and improve their DevSecOps maturity.
The InnovationAus 2022 Awards for Excellence are supported by: Investment NSW, AusIndustry, Australian Computer Society, Technology Council of Australia, Verizon, Mimecast, Microsoft Australia, Digital Health CRC (DHCRC), Agile Digital, METS Ignited, Innovation Manufacturing CRC (IMCRC) CSIRO, and Q-CTRL.
