$80m government cyber hubs pilot axed

A Coalition-era program to centralise federal government networks through hubs in Canberra’s biggest agencies has been axed after an $80 million pilot, with a series of new initiatives to harden cyber security now under development.

InnovationAus.com can reveal the four cyber hubs established in Defence, Home Affairs, Services Australia and the Tax Office from July 2021 will be “decommissioned” at the conclusion of the two-year pilot next month.

Agencies currently served by the hubs, including the Australian Digital Health Agency, Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission and AUSTRAC, will continue to be supported, however, as the government considers its next steps as part of the update to the cybersecurity strategy.
