A salvage mission is underway into the government’s $345 million attempt to consolidate government enterprise resource planning systems, as the Finance department prepares agencies for a move to cheaper options.
The salvage operation is being led by the Digital Transformation Agency and comes after the Albanese government last year scrapped the ambitious project to have around 100 agencies share an SAP based system known as GovERP.
Service Australia has continued to use the new platform, now known as Services Australia ERP, and it is available to other agencies. But agencies are no longer obligated to use it after top technology bureaucrats agreed there were better alternatives available.
