Plans for a $3.5 billion green iron project supplied with hydrogen from the federal and state government backed Central Queensland Hydrogen Project have been unveiled, although project could take several years to become operational, according to its developer.
Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners said on Monday that it had secured the rights to land adjacent to the renewable energy-powered Central Queensland Hydrogen Project (CQ-H2), where it plans to build its Gladstone Green Iron Project.
The infrastructure investment manager has partnered with Central Queensland Metals for access to magnetite, a type of iron ore, which it plans to convert into green iron using hydrogen produced at CQ-H2.
