The Albanese government will tip another $288.1 million into its digital identity program in Tuesday’s federal Budget to run pilots and beef up infrastructure, regulation and security in a scheme which has now been funded with more than $1 billion over the past decade.
As the government looks to secure passage of its amended Digital ID Bill through the lower house later this week, Finance minister Katy Gallagher on Monday announced new funding to continue a project that first began under the Coalition in 2015.
It follows $145.5 million in funding from the government in the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO) for what is now known as the Australian Government Digital ID System (AGDIS).
