Services Australia without basic cyber policies

Services Australia would struggle to recover from a major cyber attack, according to an outside audit of the tech heavy agency that is responsible for welfare payments, myGov and other critical services.

Missing or insufficient cyber policies and back up procedures are putting the agency’s operations at risk, triggering recommendations for new documentation, policies and testing at Services Australia.

Secretary David Hazlehurst has agreed to the recommendations made by the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO), with some improvements already underway. The agency could face even more demands under Australia’s rising expectations for government cybersecurity.
