NSW unis overlook national cyber laws

NSW universities overlooked federal laws designed to help protect critical infrastructure assets from cyber incidents in their first full year of operation by failing to identify critical systems and data assets.

The finding is contained in an annual audit of the state’s tertiary sector, which also reveals that seven universities also have “cybersecurity risks above what they have determined as acceptable risk level”.

The Universities 2023 report, released last week, assessed the performance of ten universities last year, including University of Sydney, the University of NSW and Western Sydney University.
